Sega Superstar Tennis Wii Review

Controls work well, shame about the lack of any gameplay motive!

Earlier this month our lovely team of writers reviewed Sega Superstars Tennis on the 360 and PS3, unfortunately it didn’t really score that high! But were here today to see if this brand new sport fest can live up to its name on the Nintendo Wii! The game basically consists of all of your all time Sega classics both good and bad sorting their issues on the tennis pitch! Think of Virtua Tennis and you got a pretty good idea of what to expect here!

Sega has jumbled many of today’s favourites all together for you to use! Sonic and all his mates are ready for the play as well as some of the baddies from the serious! So the famous Dr Eggman will be showing his face! You also got some other favourites such as Jet Set Radio, Nights and also an unexpected guest! The dwarf from golden axe which you can unlock later on in the game! Each character is different with little variation in style! There's nothing really that sets them massively apart from each other, so each character doesn’t have a certain advantage! Each character has a super shot move which you can pull off! But as powerful as they look they all seem pretty pointless as the enemy AI always seems to bounce it back! The game holds a chest full of unlockables for you to seek out and retrieve, this includes hidden players, more maps as well as other pleasing goodies!

To begin with you have a few play modes which you can choose, some good, some not so good! You can just go for it in a 1v1 or 2v2 tennis match, or you can try challenge mode! Challenge mode will throw lots of varied tests at you one which was most entertaining was hitting zombies in Curien's mansion! A lot of other challenges are ready for you to try so it’s all pretty entertaining while you do so as you will visit different locations and meet new characters! The main thing which I really like about the Wii version is the classic control system! You can use either your Wii-mote or you can use both Wii-mote and nunchuk! When using both combined you can use the controls easier and you still swing with your Wii-mote! It’s "Very" easy to use and pick up! Great for times when your mates or family come over for the day because you don’t want to be spending all day faffing about with controls!

Graphics and audio have a slight cuddly feel to it all! It’s well displayed; the settings and landscapes are really well-done! Each character usually has their personalised court! Jet set Radio is set in a city theme environment where if you play on Sonic's court you have the lush green hills with rings floating around the place! Audio works well sound effects are effective and play smooth with the game! One minor annoyance was the repetitive arcade style soundtrack! But you tend to zone it out after a while!

The one big difference between the Wii version and the bigger consoles is the lack of any online playability! That’s right, you can’t go online to team up with other people around the world! But you still are able to play four player in the same room which is great when you can actually get four people into a room without any accidents or accidental killings via flying remote controls! All in all the game is very enjoyable to play! It’s most certainly more enjoyable to play on the Wii console than playing it on the higher end machines due to its charm and the control system! However the lack of certain features sets it back! This game is definitely one to play only with friends or for a rental over the weekend!
